I have had my eyebrows waxed many, many times. It’s nice if you have the time to go to a nice place where they play zen music and have little waterfalls and shit, but honestly? I usually don’t. Two kids and a job will take the time right out of you.
Last week when we stopped by the mall, I noticed a new brow shaping place had opened up and that they did threading. I had heard about threading before, but was totally not convinced that it was legit and actually worked. Also? I’m Italian. I have crazy eyebrows. You’re going to get them to behave with string? Right.
But at $10, I couldn’t really pass it up. I mean, a decent wax will run you about $35 so this was definitely a deal.
Now, let me just tell you again – I’ve been waxed before, many times. I like to think I’m a pretty decent waxee. I don’t flinch, I don’t wiggle, I don’t say OW! I just sit there and take it and leave with my puffy browbone when I’m done.
But this fucking hurt.
I still didn’t do any of the things I mentioned above; I mean, my kids were there and I had to be tough, right? But yeah, to me it hurt a LOT more than waxing. As the lady was doing it, she was actually telling me that it probably would hurt more, but that because they’re not pulling at the skin like waxing does, it’s better in the long run because it doesn’t promote wrinkles. I’m sure that’s their big selling point, but really, it makes sense.
So I don’t have a before picture of them, but trust me – it wasn’t pretty. I’m more than pleased with how they turned out, and for ten bucks plus a tip, I’ll be going back f’sho.
The rest of the day was Crazy Errand Running Day – Ikea for a new comforter for Jake, lunch on the coast, grocery shopping, a Fry’s stop and finally home to put my feet up for a bit before I start laundry, dinner and the very, very scary 30 Day Shred.
I have a feeling I’m going to be in bed early tonight.
xx – Heather.

i never had my eyebrows waxed before (i’m a plucker) and i’ve never had threading done either. but i had no idea threading would hurt! i would have bet money that waxing would hurt more. your brows look great though :)
Thank you! I think it was worth the discomfort. :)
If it keeps you looking fantastic, by all means keep it up.
Thanks, Dave. :)
Ugh. My sister had that done and said it was no biggie. I’m glad I didn’t believe her. My hairdresser will do waxing for $6 (and a good job of it), and I’m still too much of a wuss. I don’t know if I flinch more at that or at the evil puff of air in my eye at my yearly eye exam. Either one, you’d think from my reaction that I’d had some horribly traumatic and painful experience with my eyes. Or, you’d just rightly assume that I am a scaredy cat. :D I go with the chemical lotion (like Nair), and use it near my eyebrows (which they say not to do, but which I must use to save face from screaming and cowering like a little girl).
Ooh, the evil eye puff! I hate that too. If you are familiar with the episode of Friends where Rachel goes to the optometrist – yeah, that’s me.
I’m a plucker (and I hate it). I’ve always been afraid to wax, and always thought threading was weird. The fact that you say it’s more painful scared me…I may have to stick with my tweezers!
I wish I were better at plucking. I always end up overdoing them. I’m better left to the hands of professionals, pain be damned!
